Description

Furosemide is a diuretic that belongs to the loop diuretic family, which is powerful and fast acting. Not only does it cause water and potassium loss, but it also depletes the body of sodium and chloride. 

It is best to take 20 mg at a time and allow 4-5 hours to pass before taking the next dose. Make sure the first dose has taken effect before taking another. Ideally, 100 mg of furosemide per day should be taken for 3 to 5 days before the show, allowing the body to more gradually reduce subcutaneous water and the bodybuilder to retain more intracellular water. If a flattening effect occurs, the bodybuilder should consume small amounts of water with some carbohydrates, in order to bring the water back into the muscle group. 

Another strategy implemented is to combine diuretics. Since Furosemide has such a powerful effect on electrolyte and potassium levels, combining it with a potassium-sparing compound like Aldactone is synergistic. A combination of 50 mg Aldactone and 20 mg Lasix is popular among athletes.
